Green Spaces Certification for Residences

Residences

The Green Spaces Certification Program helps students living in residence to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and earn recognition for their efforts.

Anyone living on campus can have their dorm or apartment be Green Spaces certified. By participating, residents commit to engaging and promoting sustainability on campus, and take steps to reduce waste and conserve energy and water in their living spaces.

What are some actions you can take? Anything from using cloth grocery bags, taking shorter showers or using eco-friendly cleaning products. These ideas and others are highlighted in the application.

How do I get started?

  1. Learn what sustainable actions you can adopt—and might already be practising—by browsing the application.
  2. Take action by completing and submitting the application. Detailed instructions are on the form.
  3. Earn recognition for your efforts. The Office of Sustainability will verify your application and award you Green Spaces Bronze, Silver or Gold certification.

You may be surprised to find that you are only a few actions away from achieving certification. Once certified, you will receive a wall cling to advertise to others about your certification. This can be a great jumping off point for engaging your friends in conversations about sustainability and achieving higher certification the next time.
