Become a leader. Draw on your knowledge, expertise and passion to become a sustainability champion. Enroll in this 3-day class and join a unique professional learning community (PLC).

Working collaboratively with your peers, you'll gain skills, share insights and get tangible results. Learn what you need to do for the bottom line and your community.

Engage people in Leading Sustainability at Work. Build a green team in your workplace or nominate a person to participate. Enrollment will help you tackle challenges related to taking action for the environment, building community, creating safe workspaces and supporting workplace diversity and inclusion.

Course details

Spring term: May 7–8 and 14, 2018.

Register for Spring 2018 through the Faculty of Extension or by phoning the Extension Student Services Office at 780-492-3116.

Program fees are $595 and financial support is available for eligible members of the UAlberta community.

Honorarium & Financial Support

As part of completing the course, UAlberta staff, faculty and graduate students can take on extra work to earn an honorarium refunding their course tuition. There are three options:

  • With the support of your supervisor, integrate a sustainability initiative into your work plan prior to the course beginning.
  • Complete an independently initiated sustainability project
  • Participate in a professional learning community (PLC) event (e.g. organizing faculty pop-ups)

All participants must also complete their post-course survey(s) to be eligible for the honorarium.

Other financial support

Alternatively, staff and faculty can apply for internal funding through the Human Resources Development Fund and the APO Central Professional Development Fund.

Open to anyone with a workspace like an office, classroom or shop. The course has been tailored for Alberta with input from the City of Edmonton, City of Spruce Grove, Edmonton International Airport, Government of Alberta and University of Alberta.

Special opportunities

City of Edmonton

City of Edmonton employees can also join a task force for city sustainability initiatives.

UAlberta staff, faculty and graduate students who complete the course can join a campus sustainability network, gaining access to new opportunities and priority support through the Office of Sustainability.
