About the Program
Sustainability Scholars is sponsored by the City of Edmonton and the University of Alberta through the Office of the Provost, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, and Office of Sustainability. It is administered by the University of Alberta Career Centre.
This program supports achievement of the university's Sustainability Plan 2012-2016, which calls for exploring opportunities to involve community experts in sustainability as teachers and mentors and strengthening student research experiences on complex issues that underpin Alberta’s socioeconomic and ecological future.
Overall, the program supports the following objectives:
To create opportunities for sharing information and ideas between graduate students of the University of Alberta and professionals working for civic institutions and local corporate leaders.
To advance professional development opportunities for graduate students at the University of Alberta, especially in the area of sustainability.
To inspire graduate students to apply their learning to real world, urban challenges.
To support the development and implementation of sustainability goals set by leading institutions and corporate partners in the Edmonton area.
New community partners may apply by Dec. 1, 2017.
New Sustainability Scholar positions open in January, 2018.
