Offices

The Green Spaces Certification Program helps offices adopt sustainable practices and earn recognition for their efforts.

Any group of people working in the same space (a work unit) can be Green Spaces certified. It all starts by making a collective commitment to reduce your environmental impact and promote social good.

What are some actions you can take? Anything from using recycled paper, purchasing lightly used office furniture or stocking reusable dishes. These ideas and others are highlighted in the application.

How do I get started?

  1. Learn what sustainable actions you can adopt—and might already be practising—by browsing the application.
  2. Take action by completing and submitting the application. Detailed instructions are on the form.
  3. Earn recognition for your efforts. The Office of Sustainability will verify your application and award you Green Spaces Bronze, Silver or Gold certification.

You may be surprised to find that you are only a few actions away from achieving certification. Receiving the framed certificate can be a great jumping off point for engaging your co-workers in conversations about sustainability and achieving higher certification the next time.

Making a difference

Every office is a small community and there are hundreds of offices across UAlberta’s five campuses. By taking the initiative to be a Green Office, you can harness UAlberta’s reach and purchasing power to make a positive impact. You will also be actively supporting the university’s Sustainability Commitment. Your office can be a sustainability leader by coming together to plan meetings, travel and purchasing decisions with sustainability in mind.

Start today! Take it to the next level with Green Spaces.
